The LCI Education network had the chance to meet with Shakira, Founder of Pies Descalzos.
This meeting highlighted the collaboration of the LCI Education Foundation and members of the LCI Education network on Pies Descalzos’ project to build a public elementary school in Colombia where the network has been present for 20 years.
LCI Education network President Claude Marchand, Executive Vice President Piero Greco, Philanthropic Development Director Sandra Parker and Brand Manager Joëlle Cloutier-Gravel took this opportunity to discuss the ongoing project.
In January 2018, the LCI Education Foundation announced its participation in the Institución Educativa Fundación Pies Descalzos El Bosque project, an initiative supported by the Colombian Ministry of Education and directed by Pies Descalzos Foundation in partnership with Obra Social La Caixa and FC Barcelona Foundation.
This alliance represents a total investment of US$4.5 million to build a public elementary school in a disadvantaged neighbourhood in Barranquilla.
A total of 960 children in the El Bosque neighbourhood will benefit from this project. The establishment’s approximately 6000 m2 will include appropriately-designed spaces to help future students develop strong skills. These spaces include a library, dining room, auditorium, special rooms, play spaces, sports areas, and spaces for technology, art and music.
The beginning of the constructions at the Institución Nuevo Bosque primary school site is planned for the end of 2018.
