This creation originated from the sensation of 'Longing.' To me, longing is soft, ethereal, and fluid— a subtle presence wrapped in layers within our hearts. I placed a dreamy sphere inside an irregular space constructed from 'unspoken emotions,' symbolizing how longing shifts between clarity and haze, beyond the reach of simple language. Historically, my work centered strictly on metalsmithing. Mastering the PUK welding technique gave me the confidence to control and express through metal. However, this project challenged me to explore 'Mixed Media' for the first time. I moved beyond literal symbols—like a simple pink ribbon— to embrace abstract forms, successfully bridging the gap between a conceptual idea and a tangible masterpiece. This represents a leap to the next level of my creative journey. Developed during my residency at the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute—NTCRI
The concept utilizes bubbles to express how longing is protected within the heart. I experimented by coating a balloon with UV resin, extracting the balloon after curing, and finishing the exterior with lacquer. The outer framework was crafted using soldered wire.
Through later experimentation, I replaced the UV resin with solid epoxy resin, applying lacquer, copper foil, and silver foil layer by layer. I also swapped the wire for pierced sheet metal to achieve a more substantial volume and structural strength.
The process of piercing and sawing the sheet metal
Through this project, I had the opportunity to work with the PUK welder.
I domed the sheet metal to create a curved form.
