Becoming aware of the world that is becoming strained by population is a concern, but we can all help with making choices with the way we live. Using the parking site next to Lasalle College Vancouver, an Eco-Suite community can be created using old shipping containers. Eco-Suite 1/1 is the first prototype of four homes that can provide a self-sustainable community utilizing solar panels, water-harvesting systems, energy efficient appliances, heaters and insulation. Reclaimed wood for millwork and furniture adds to the low carbon footprint.
The living room area is simple with some multi-use furniture. The occupants can enjoy the sunnier days when the container doors open out to the outdoor deck.
With 320 sqft. of living space, the Eco-Suite 1/1 container home has just the necessities. The platform bed contains storage drawers underneath for seasonal items and personal effects. The washer and dryer is compact and using energy efficient appliances, it is hooked up to the rain harvesting system. Next to it is a closet for hanging closes and shelving. A half-size built-in refrigerator can hold enough supplies for a two-person household.
