GO. SEE. DO

In 2013 I took part in GO. SEE. DO which is an organization that travels to different parts of the world to help people in need. That year my group and I traveled down to the Dominican Republic where we built a school from the ground up. We fixed a community center that was recently damaged and laid pluming pipes in a near by village. In addition we also helped at a medical clinic and planted a large garden filled with different kinds of vegetables that would be sustainable for a long time to come. During the trip I got to practice my Spanish with the locals. I also learnt the basic architecture of a small building and how to manually make cement, exhausting! Going on a community service trip was something that I’ve always wanted to do. Helping people and making sure that everyone is ok is a big part of my life and it’s very important to me. My experience was so much more then what I thought it would be. Playing hide and seek with the little kid, and listening to the adults one on one open up about their struggles really moved me. When the trip was over it was a bitter sweet moment. I had made so many new friends, some of which that would be able to grow and learn in the new school that we built, but at the same time I was really sad to leave such a great place that was filled with so much love and joy even though they have so little.
