Newfoundland and Labrador is the easternmost province of Canada. It has been a linguistically heterogeneous province that has welcomed people and languages from cultures all over the world. However, most of them have disappeared completely. To conserve this hub of Languages, a Cultural and Language Centre is proposed. It will preserve and propagate the varied languages that existed historically and are now extinct or on the verge of getting extinct. The proposed intervention respects history, reflects on the present and aims for the future. Inspiration was taken from the existing architectural style of the city which makes it feel and look like a part of it. For the center to become an important place for tourists, the design takes advantage of the beautiful location trying to capture magnificent views of St John’s (Newfoundland's capital) and its harbor. The iconic nature of the province is the main source of inspiration for the concepts, materials, and overall design of the project, in that way, the building does not only celebrates Newfoundland’s beauty but contributes to it.
