Footbath Cafe

Footbath in the spring water is a traditional Japanese-style spa. There are many outdoor footbath pools in Japan. The project combines a footbath and tea cafe together in an interior space. The footbath spa can warm the whole body, improve blood circulation. And our cafe will serve dessert and drinks. It's a good place to enjoy the footbath and have teatime with friends here.

Mood Board

Since hundreds of years ago, Japanese people have already begun enjoying spring water spas. Footbath spa, as a form from it, was favored by people, too. Canada is a multicultural country, which included Japanese culture. In Vancouver, there is a big population who are interested and committed to the traditional Japanese culture.

Schematic Design

This project is a fusion of traditional Japanese culture and modern concepts. To introduce the traditional Japanese culture to the locals. The spring water experience to people means relaxation, meditation, and inspiration. We will combine this concept with the Zen philosophy. While you enjoy the spa, you will feel like you are entering the spirit world of yourself, to dialog with your ego, and generally feel nothing. But nothing is everything – this is one of the explanations of Zen philosophy. Minimalism and naturalism are the main concepts of our design. Those simple and natural elements will contribute to our space.

Elevation

The site is a two-story building with a high ceiling-high loft tower room on the second floor. The first floor is a foot bath cafeteria. The customers can experience the traditional Japanese-style foot bath while enjoying our delicious desert. The second floor is for massage spa and meditation.

Entrance

Once your walk into the cafe, you can see the logo wall with minimal design. There is a Japanese garden behind the waiting area. The stair is also accessible for the customers who have an appointment for a spa service upper-level.

The finishes of the

Cafeteria

The finishes of the interior space will be natural stone tiles on the walls, porcelain floor tiles, and wooden cabinets. The choice of finishes creates an environment that references the zen philosophy.

Cafeteria

Acoustic panels cover the whole center bar counter area and are installed on the ceiling. Its primary function is to absorb internal noise, resulting in a peaceful environment. Many guests would close their eyes and relax in the peaceful footbath. To decrease the ceiling height of the side seats, there are wooden beam ceilings and pendant lights. It's attempting to instill a sense of security in order to provide them with a comfortable and calm environment.

Private Room

By adding wooden ceilings, each room has a similar scheme. This would increase the luxury sense of the spaces.

The meditation room

Meditation Room

The meditation room settles at the two-story high loft tower. Surrounding by full-height french windows, the natural light of the room will be maximized. After enjoying the body spa, the customers can take a sun-bath snap here.
