Paper Couture

Get Grounded was a joint project with Alison Dominguez to create fashions for the Autumn/Winter 2020/21 season and execute them in paper - Paper Couture. Get Grounded was a final project for our introductory course, Survey of the Fashion Industry. Neither of us had any pattern making skills, but our design and the use of multiple types of paper - from tissue paper to wallpaper - certainly caught the eye.

Paper Couture

We started with trend research for A/W 2020/21, including colour research. It all pointed to Get Grounded, with colours and shapes that would provide a calming influence to what we then thought was heightened social anxiety - and that was pre-COVID. A sketch of a coat and blouse provided the direction for our experiment in Paper Couture.
