The concept for my fantasy character, Helixa a half-dead Viking witch who guards the portal to the underworld, was inspired by a Matthias Jung photomontage of a mysterious hovering brick wall over a barren landscape. Helixa is a powerful immortal seer and an intermediate between the worlds of the living and the dead. She has the ability to travel into the underworld to alter the strands of time and weave destiny; however, each venture into the spiritual realm of the dead causes her mind and body to fester and rot giving her a physical and mental duality between insanity and loneliness. Her costume references her nomadic Viking culture with the use of heavy wool and furs for warmth as well as leather and metal elements for protection. Her helmet and jewelry bear the ancient rune stone symbols for power, protection, balance and strength. She uses the rune stones as well as her ice staff to predict and change destinies of those who seek her help. Her braided ice blue hair is pulled up through her helmet and adorned with feathers to add to hear fearsome appearance.
