The final project of the Fashion Concept class requires research based on the McCord Museum's Dior Exhibition. The project involves researching Dior's fashions or another fashion designer who began their career at least 25 years ago, and creating an original couture garment collection inspired by a pivotal garment image. The collection should not be ready-to-wear or basic in design and can be interpreted as evening wear or daywear. The project encourages students to interpret historical fashion design with a contemporary approach. I chose Comme des Garçons as my inspiration due to Rei Kawakubo's innovative designs in the 80s that challenged established norms with the shapes and unique silhouettes. The designer continues to influence the fashion industry today leaving a lasting impact.
