Biography

I love films that allow me to escape reality. Stories and films that take me to another time and place that is as different as can be from the current world around me. The sci-fi and fantasy genres do exactly that with films such as Star Wars, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Indiana Jones, and superhero films being some of my absolute favourites. And those aren’t the only genres. Growing up I loved watching old westerns such as Rio Bravo and The Magnificent Seven (1960), murder mysteries and film noirs such as The Thin Man and The Kennel Murder Case, and thrillers like Rear Window and North by Northwest. These are the kinds of films I can get lost in, and the kinds I want to be able to make in the future. Whenever I work on a project, before any words are coming out of anybody’s mouth, I’m always thinking of the visuals first. I’m always thinking of how I want things to look, and ways to make each project look as good as it can. And I know that I’m on the right track once I get that clear picture in my head. After that, everything else can fall into place. The camera angles, lighting, set design, bringing that all together and getting the shot just right is such a rewarding feeling that it makes it all worth it. And I get that same feeling when I’m editing. Getting to bring everything together with the right cuts and the right effects, and seeing that final product is why I want to do this. Editing and post-production are where I want to put my focus, but I don’t want to limit myself because there are other areas of this industry that I enjoy just as much.
