South Ontario Lovesong is a challenge against forms of toxic masculinity found in Canadian and Military culture. It’s an ode to young Canadian men (and women) who’ve been affected by this brand of masculinity, and a way for them to subvert it. By creating traditional military and outdoors wear silhouettes that present themselves as delicate, but are able to stand up to the elements as effectively as their historic relatives, I might present a meaningful way for Canadian men to understand the importance of vulnerability and emotional awareness.
