Dental Office

Project Mandate: To explore various materials for the client's space - contemporary, sanitary, hygienic, safe and commercial grade. To produce sample boards and finish plans for each room. Client: Owner of a dental clinic. She is looking to renovate by changing several materials. Concept: A sophisticated approach to designing for a healthcare facility using darker and richer tones and materials to act as a distinct contrast to the standard neutral and refreshing tones.

Reception Materials

For this dental office project, we have chosen a concept that combines finishes with dark and rich tones, with some others of more neutral and refreshing tones. This creates a new and sophisticated approach to designing for a healthcare facility. The waiting room floor and furniture provide a warm and comfortable space for clients, which also helps in the case of anyone who does not particularly enjoy trips to the dentist. We have countered these heavy tones with much lighter and natural tones for the reception and walls of the space. These help suggest a clean and fresh environment and keeping the room feeling air and grounded at the same time. The chenille fabric used on the chairs gives us a very soft, velvet-like feel which counteracts the more rigid and clinical feeling that the treatment chairs have. Our paint colour choices also aid in creating a transition through the washroom and treatment rooms, with blue, grey and green running throughout the spaces.

Our choices for the

Washroom and Treatment Room Materials

Our choices for the washroom and treatment rooms reflect the client's mandate of being contemporary and sanitary. the tile chosen for the washroom has a matte finish with a concrete texture which will provide extra grip in the event of moisture on the floor. The flowing organic pattern of our accent wall is also easy to maintain with it's lack of sharp or deep corners. Once again, the grey tones chosen here make for a relatively monochromatic space, with a hint of colour from the walls. Being a small room, we did not want to overwhelm the space with to much colour or flashy elements; this balances out the more luxurious colours and textures we find in the adjacent waiting room. The treatment rooms also tend towards the simplistic, as do many other healthcare treatment rooms. We, however, have taken the classic feel and used some clever contemporary materials to liven up the rooms. Our laminate counter is durable as a dentist's workspace, while providing subtle texturing. To compliment this, our wall paper is accented by the appearance of striated metal, bringing a little bit of reflectivity into the rooms to help brighten the mood, but without being overly colourful. Finally, like any good contemporary design, our strong pop of colour comes in the resilient flooring. Overall, the entire space has been conceptualized based on sanitary needs. The furniture and coverings in the washroom and treatment rooms are all easily washable.
