An exploration of craft, community, and self-sufficiency. Women have historically practiced crafts as a way to empower each other and preserve tradition. Working from what was available to them, they fashioned wearables which were practical, beautiful, and reflected the role of women at the time. By revisiting these crafts in a contemporary context, the collection explores the idea of self sustainability, and the role of crafts in building communities and exchanging ideas. Growing up in the countryside has created a desire to reconnect with nature, and rediscover its beauty and harmony through material research. The designs were achieved by employing rudimentary historical techniques such as felting, knitting, weaving, and hand sewing to create practical and beautiful garments reminiscent of historical functions.
