Cá Ri is a high end dining experience of Vietnamese fusion food. The traditional conical Vietnamese hat dictates the spatial form of this space. The circular form of this hat, that is deep rooted in the Vietnamese culture, inspired the 360 degree philosophy of the restaurant. The restaurant concept is a hybrid space creating an experience of dining with retail, where customers can take back spices etc. to continue their food journey even after they have left the restaurant.
The entrance to the restaurant is from the two story high circular vestibule with a skylight. Cladded with bamboo and vertical garden, gives the customers a sense of being one with nature. Here the customers are greeted by the host and taken to their seats.

The aesthetic concept is driven by escapism and biophilia with the interpretation of modern, French influenced Vietnam. Dome like shapes and arches are influenced by the natural landscapes of Vietnam and the architectural heritage of France. These forms dominate the space creating functional sections for different areas of the restaurant. Materials, textures and color palette used in the project is a reflection of the Vietnamese culture. Fresco paintings on the wall by Vietnamese artist Vu Thu Hein adds a touch of color to the space.
Part of the customer experience is the 14’ high ceilings and the 25’ long semi-open kitchen and pass that overlook the entire restaurant. This is the first thing you see after you enter the space. Either sides of the kitchen walls are covered in floor to ceiling fresco painting by artist Vu Thu Hein from Hanoi. Curved wooden rafters suspended from the ceiling provide a dome like look over the main bar on the ground level. Creepers on the rafters adds to the biophilic element of the space. Similar dome like structure on the opposite end provides a cozy space for the formal dining area. The drop ceiling and water feature in this area is influenced by the landscapes of Vietnam. The main floor of the restaurant is designed in a way so everyone has a view of the open kitchen. Each area has a contrasting, yet complimenting floor and ceiling finish.
The design experience continues as you make your way up to the first floor. The rotunda is clad with backlit shelfing that wraps around the wall on one side. This space allows for the customers to walk around the retail area and enter the dining or bar space from either sides.
Theatre style seating in the bar area makes for good viewing of the entire floor. Lowered ceiling at the bar also gives the space its own identity. Enlarged fresco painting within arches compliments the colorful and playful atmosphere of the bar.
The private dining room is within a skylight dome giving the customers a unique dining experience. The walls, floor and ceiling are all finished in plaster paint with cove lighting to give it a cave like feeling.
