SORORIDADE - A Relationship of Sisterhood, Unity, and Affection.

This series of mixed media portraits are inspired by the feminine power and its diverse expressions. It was created with watercolors, pastels, ink, and gold leaves. The choices of materials were made in order to communicate and celebrate the strength and power of my subjects. The natural elements in the composition are symbolic representations of the qualities I associate with the subject. Through the past several months, I have been in dialog with these women exchange on life experiences. They shared some of their artwork which I decided to incorporate in the work as a way to make that collaboration visible. Looking at the entire series, I hope the viewers will feel a sense of solidarity and belonging amongst this circle of empowered individuals regardless of ethnicity, social class, religions, sexuality, etc.
