I used watercolor and color pencils to draw five different drawings to create five patterns. For the rose drawing, I selected red and gold color to be the main colors for the flower petals. In addition, I used only watercolor for the petals but I added color pencil to the rose leaves and stem for a more realistic texture. The reason why I chose candies to be the other element of my project is because I think flowers gives a sense that it’s sweet. So, I added a lollipop with a bow to the rose. In addition, I chose pink and white to be the color of the lollipop because I was influenced by William Kilburn’s way of choosing similar colors. Furthermore, I was also influenced by Kilburn’s white contour line, so I added on the rose lollipop and other flowers I painted. For the phoenix flower (also named Delonix regia), I used red, orange, yellow and gold colors to paint it. I blended the colors to be as natural as I could but I added some contrast colors like blue and purple for the pistil to emphasize it. For the Chinese Narcissus, I chose white for the light color but the yellow to be the dark color. The reason I chose these color is because I was influenced by Kilburn. For the Magnolia, I chose pink and white for the same reason as the Chinese Narcissus. Lastly, for the violet, I was influenced by the way that Kilburn used for his dark plants' illustrations.
