Biography
Originally from Calgary, Alberta, I moved to Vancouver, British Columbia in 2016 to pursue my passion in filmmaking. I wasn’t quite sure which field I wanted to focus on, but attending LaSalle College of Vancouver, formally known as The Art Institute of Vancouver, I discovered camera operating.
Ever since middle school when we were required to watch Planet Earth in science class; I was the only student who genuinely enjoyed it. At first it was for my love of animals and discovering what hidden gems our planet has to offer, but as I got older I started to recognize and appreciate the camera work. I was very inspired by it and started to take out my family’s camera and take pictures and videos of our travels and adventures. In high school, I discovered Korean music. I become very interested and inspired by not only the music but the language. From listening to the music and discovering different Korean musicians, I started watching Korean films and TV series. Growing up with only knowing Western films and TV series, this felt like a whole new world to me. The more I started watching them, the more fascinated I became and I discovered my favorite film “Train to Busan.” To me, this is one of those films that makes you feel multiple emotions and had me hooked from the very first second. The amount of detail and camera movement to heighten the emotion and thrills was very inspiring to me.
In 2017, I got my first camera. This camera has taught me a lot about being a camera operator. Through every project that I’ve done there has always been a lesson I’ve learned and have taken it and used it into my newer projects. There are very few projects that I’m proud of, but when I’m using my camera I’m always eager to learn and experience different opportunities that can help educate me in being a better camera operator.
