Paintings

Alyssa uses paint to explore concepts of time and how its impalpable nature shapes the way we experience life. She is interested in the quotidian exchanges of life around her - observing common encounters which range from domestic and backyard scenes to live subjects such as the human body. When painting these isolated instances, Alyssa crops or partially omits certain elements in order to construct a quiet friction between what is apparent and what is missing. These voids accentuate a sense of existential trepidation. Her paintings are attempts to negotiate the psychological limitations of time and space by reconstituting candid moments in paint.
