1. Source of project’s inspiration
The hamsa, or Hand of Fatima, is a key symbol worn as jewelry in many countries in the Middle East and North Africa. Today, the hamsa is worn by women of Muslim origin, as a fashion accessory or out of superstition, and in some cases to indicate their Maghrebi origins. The idea to create this piece came from a bracelet with a hamsa pendant that I was wearing.

2. Project description
It is a multifunction piece that can be used for separation, storage and built-in seating, and also for decoration.

3. Materials and creative process
For me, the creative process began with a search for images with a shape suitable for storage. From the start, I drew sketches and perspectives to have a multifunction piece with this shape. Then I searched for materials, to achieve a piece with a modern look while maintaining the traditional touch. For the color, I opted for neutral colors: white, black, gray, etc.

4. How did the College or the program’s professors help you develop this project?
Although this is Furniture Design and Production, my professors greatly helped the piece resemble the idea I had. They played an important role in the search for suitable models for my idea, which allowed me to achieve the shape and design I was looking for, while highlighting the hamsa symbol that represents my project’s theme.
